Frequently asked questions

This is a host-managed home, not Instant Book. Send your dates and guest numbers from the home page (or a booking request). We review each stay against the house rules before we accept — usually within 24 hours. You are not charged until we confirm.

That extra step keeps the cottage for guests who want a quiet stay by the strand, not a party house. Address and check-in notes go out with the confirmation email.

Yes. Put the lead guest’s full name on the booking so it matches the ID they produce at check-in. The cardholder can be different from the guest, but the stay is non-transferable without telling the host first.

Did this answer your question?

Most times it is 2 nights. In July and August, and around bank holidays, the minimum booking is 7 nights. The calendar on each listing shows the rule before you pay.

Nothing is taken until the host accepts the request. Then a 30% non-refundable deposit is charged. The remainder is due 14 days before arrival. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

The price you see before you tap Book is the total: nightly rate, cleaning fee (if any) and service fee. You’ll never be asked to pay extra unless you add an optional extra after booking.

For a company invoice, reply to that email with the billing name and address. This is not a VAT invoice as it is not applicable at this time.

Did this answer your question?

Yes, if the new nights are free. If the new total is higher, you’ll pay the difference; if it’s lower, we refund the gap to the original card (usually 5–10 working days).

Standard check-in is 16:00–18:00 and checkout is 11:00. Self check-in is via lockbox — the code arrives the morning of arrival. After 18:00, message the host; late arrival is usually fine if we know you’re on the road from Dublin, Belfast or elsewhere.

Did this answer your question?

Ask the host after you book. Early check-in is often possible if the cleaners have finished. Late checkout (until 13:00) may be offered.

Did this answer your question?

No, pets are not allowed.

Did this answer your question?

No indoor smoking (including vapes) — please use the outdoors. Parties and events are not permitted: Portnoo is a small village and neighbours are close. Quiet hours are 22:00–08:00. The booking is for the number of guests you entered; extra overnight visitors need host approval.

A car is strongly recommended. Portnoo sits on the Wild Atlantic Way west of Ardara.

  • Donegal Airport (CFN) — about 50 minutes.
  • City of Derry (LDY) — about 1 hour 45 minutes.
  • Ireland West Knock (NOC) — about 2 hours.
  • Dublin Airport (DUB) — about 3 hours 45 minutes via the N15/N56.

Local Link buses serve Ardara and Glenties; from there you’ll want a taxi for the last stretch to Narin Strand and the harbour. Step-by-step driving notes and a pin map are on the local map page.

Use the message thread in your confirmation — we aim to reply within an hour during the day. For a lockbox, boiler or Wi‑Fi problem after 21:00, call the number in the house manual. If you cannot reach the host, use the contact form.

Narin Strand is a Blue Flag beach in front of the village, with dunes and views to Inishkeel Island (you can walk out at low tide; check the tide times). Narin & Portnoo Golf Club is the links above the strand; visitors are welcome, book a tee time ahead in summer.

For groceries Morgan's Mace is about 1 km away, Annora Pub about 100m away, Tavern Portnoo is about 2km. Dawros Bay House is about 6km. Ardara is about 15–20 minutes by car. The harbour and pier are ideal for an evening stroll when the boats are in. Pin everything on the local map.

Narin Strand is a walking beach, not a lifeguarded swim beach. The incoming tide can cut off sandbars and the causeway to Inishkeel — never walk out without checking tide tables, and don’t linger on the island if the water is rising.

In an emergency dial 112. The nearest Garda station is Glenties approx. 12 km away and a 20 minute drive. The neares GP is Ardara Health Centre in Ardara, approx. 12 km. Carbon monoxide alarms and fire blankets are in place.
